Our U14s unfortunately lost their season opener against a spirited Upton United, after having a great start to the game, playing some fantastic football and grabbing a goal each from two of our debutants we went in at half time 2-1 up over the visitors. The second half came about and Upton began to grow into the game, they played well as a unit and exploited the space well, pouncing on a few errors from our inexperienced side and finished their chances clinically. We kept battling and got up the pitch well at times, sticking to our ethos of playing football. We just couldn't find the finish needed when the opportunities presented themselves. We were awarded a penalty late on which was finished well by one of our more experienced players. This gave the lads some renewed energy but again we gifted the visitors space to play and they punished us. All in all a great spectacle for the neutral but a tough one to take for the boys in their season opener. We will regroup and go again. The boys will no doubt bounce back from this one as we have shown in parts today we are more than capable of competing at this level despite what the scoreline might suggest. We go again!!
