After a convincing victory last week I think complacency had started to set in. However, we took the lead in the third minute through Junior, we thought that this was going to be a breeze when in fact South Leeds weren't going to lay down and let us play our usual fast flowing football, they were a well drilled side and had a big part to play in this game. Lukas was back this week and got on the end of a lovely pass and slotted home to make it 2-0 a minute after Junior had opened the scoring. We stopped defending at this point and South Leeds had plenty of efforts on our goal which called upon Jess who went in goal for Finley who was ill today and she did a fantastic job commanding her area. Play was being closed down and we weren't able to find many gaps, not helped by our lack of workrate to defend our goal and then move back up the pitch as a unit, and so options were limited. We eventually found a third with a long range effort from Louis who curled one beyond the keeper to give us a cushion which we would come to rely on.
Although we played quarters and tried to reinforce that we weren't marking well enough and we were very frantic and a lot of the guys were ball watching for most parts we didn't stop battling and trying to create chances. South Leeds pulled a goal back through their best player number 5 who challenged and broke up play all over the pitch for them and deserved his goal just after half time. 15 minutes later, Kylan carried on his fine form in front of goal and reinstated the 3 goal cushion. 2 late goals from South Leeds made it a nervy end to the game but we managed to see the game out to make it 3 wins from 3 this season. Baring in mind we only won 5 games all of last season, the improvement is huge and the players are really showing the potential that we have seen in them since U7.
All in all not our best performance but we'll take the win, learn from it and hopefully be back at our best next week at home.
