An early 9am kick off in Batley against LS27 was not the ideal last game of the season and the torrential rain did not help either. However, we spoke before the game about ending the season in the right way and carrying on our good form into our final game. LS27 started the game the better side and looked much improved from the last time we played them. They hit the woodwork a few times in the early exchanges and were unlucky not to be in the lead in the first 5-10 minutes. Jess coming to the rescue on a number of occasions. Jess had a fantastic game and pulled off some heroics in goal to keep the scores at 0-0, helped out but the unique partnership of Joseph and Louis who were both incredible at the back today, Joseph showing some fancy footwork to fool the oncoming LS27 players and help push us forward, in search of that first goal. Eventually the deadlock was broken when Lukas, who was back in the team this week, returned with a goal, to kickstart the end of season performance we were searching for. The slippery surface meant that a lot of passes were skidding off the surface and out of play on the narrow pitch. Consequently, there were no other goals going into the half time break, with a good battle for the next goal which seemed would be crucial in deciding which way the game would sway. The second half started and immediately Kylan, fresh off the bench had an impact, with a fine finish, he has scored some really important goals for us this season and this one was equally as important, as it gave us the confidence to push on and play with a little more freedom. 4 minutes later, Javan powered forward, leaving defenders in his wake to then slot home at the near post, Javan is an absolute powerhouse and has been pivotal for us this season with his physical presence and his passing ability to slot the ball in behind the opposition defence for our forwards to pounce on. Kylan added a second after some relentless pressing and gets his reward as he has done so often recently, great to see his hard work rewarded with some goals. Shortly after, Louis Lister with an effort outside the box, slotted the ball home into the far corner, Louis hadn't scored for us until a few weeks ago and now he can't stop scoring !. I think we started to get complacent towards the end and allowed them in behind a few too many times and LS27 grabbed a well worked conciliation towards the latter stages of the game.
Overall, a great way to end the season and very much looking forward to playing in the 7V7 format next season, which will enable us to have more structure to our team setup.
As always ...
