Our last game of the season at home to LS27 was one that we hoped we could get a result from, after a tough season in the higher divisions, testing ourselves against the best. The game started just as we would of hoped, by Joseph showing just what he can do when he's on it, a fine finish in the first minute of the game, which set the tone for much of the first 15-20 mins. Louis was next on the score sheet as he grabbed his first goal for Kirkstall which has been a long time coming, he dances through defences from our very own defence effortlessly most weeks and it was nice to see him finally put the ball home and the celebration showed just how much he enjoyed that one. Lukas was next to find the back of the net, taking on the LS27 defence and doing what he does best, finishing with aplomb. Joseph then finished off a great passing move to grab a second and Lukas shortly after on the 10 minute mark also grabbed his second of the match. A few goals in front, LS27 brought on an extra player and that's when the game turned, LS27 using the extra player to their advantage and getting a goal back. Layton responded with a first time finish he has worked on in training, to see the fruits of his hard work on this occasion, it was nice to see. Briggsy in goal made some fine saves on his return after injury and showed just how much we missed him by commanding his area and smothering the ball on numerous occasions, as well as some great point blank saves as well. A couple of goals towards the latter end of the first half from LS27, made the game a close one, heading into the second half. We decided to allow LS27 to keep the extra player on to test ourselves and show that often hard work wins games. LS27 however capitalised and scored 3 goals to draw the game level with only a couple of minutes remaining. Our resilience and hard work paid off with a goal worthy of winning any football match. The ball comes forward from Louis and Junior met it on the volley from the edge of the box, across the goalkeeper and into the far corner. The sideline erupted, certainly a goal of the season contender !. Seconds after LS27 kicked off, Lukas sealed the game with another expert finish to complete his hat-trick. An entertaining game for both teams and a fantastic way to end the season as you can see by the smiles on faces at full-time.
Bring on next season !
